Director’s welcome

Welcome to HMP Forest Bank, a Sodexo Justice prison.

Trevor Shortt is the Director of HMP Forest bank, leading a strongly performing establishment that works to protect the public, keep people safe, and reduce reoffending.

This is in line with the purpose of Sodexo Justice; to change lives for the better by reducing re-offending and risk of harm, and improving the Quality of Life of those under our supervision and care.

In September 2019, HM Inspectorate of Prisons published a report on their most recent unannounced inspection at HMP Forest Bank.  The report centres on four tests measuring safety, respect, purposeful activity and rehabilitation. The inspectors found Forest Bank to achieve the highest level of rehabilitation provision, and the second highest level for respect and purposeful activity but only the third highest level for safety. As such safety, decency and security are are paramount. The results of this report reflect our commitment to delivering services to a high standard in what can be a highly challenging environment.

From ground-breaking partnerships to through-the-gate support which continues our mission into the community, great work is taking place across our prison.

If you are family member or loved one of a person in our custody, or are considering working for us, you can be assured that safety, decency and security are our top priorities and we pledge to introduce and embed a safety culture at HMP Forest Bank with the aim that staff, prisoners and visitors end the day in the same physical condition as they started.

The vast majority of our prisoners and our staff are from Greater Manchester and we consider it our duty and mission to contribute to a safer Greater Manchester by the good work we do in Forest Bank.

I hope you find the information you require on our website. Please do get in touch if you require assistance.
